More Than Kind

I was always told don’t stay too long
You’ll end up putting roots down somewhere you wont belong
End up stranded and a long way from home
But I’m surrounded by my friends tonight
I can tell you that I think I have done alright
This life has been more than kind to me

So pour another drink there is no phones in sight
And I’m talking to a stranger like we’ve known each other all our lives
Tell me where else would you rather be?
I catch her eye from across the bar
And she struts over like she’s a movie star
We danced while the band played any old song

The band has packed up and the lights are on bright
But no one seems willing to head off into the night
Someone started tuning up a guitar
So we all sang along as they closed up around us
Frank grabbed a tambourine and joined in on the chorus
Who needs home when we have all night.

I was always told don’t stay too long
You’ll end up putting roots down somewhere you wont belong
End up stranded and a long way from home
But I’m surrounded by my friends tonight
And we are playing songs until well after midnight
This life has been more than kind to me
